I have been rather neglectful of my blog these last few months, a lot has been happening at home with a big move to a completely different part of the country for Matt’s job so I have let things slip somewhat. But how better to get back into it than by blogging my best friend’s wedding to her Spanish love, Juan, who she married one year today. I hope these photos bring back lots of happy memories, I know they do for me. So here goes….
Carolyn & I have known each other since we were 13 when we met on the first day she joined our school in Brussels and we have been best friends ever since. Caro was one of my bridesmaids at our wedding in 2010 and it was so wonderful to be celebrating her special day as a witness and photographer. I had only met Juan once before they got married but from what I can see he makes her so happy and at the end of the day that’s all that counts, it’s clear that they are clearly besotted with each other and I could not have been more happy to see her tie the knot with her Mr Juan 🙂
The wedding took place in a lovely little Spanish village called Benidoleig where Carolyn lives, about an hour away from Alicante. And what a wedding it was, celebrating with all their family and friends, some of whom had flown in from Brussels and the UK, until the early hours of the morning.
It was the HOTTEST wedding I have ever been to, even the Spanish locals were complaining about it being the hottest summer in 20 years!! Anyone that knows me, knows that I do not do sun and heat well and to be running around taking photos in that kind of heat was certainly an experience, but I would not have changed it for the world. Not only did we have 43 degree heat, we also had a power cut, resulting in no fans whilst getting ready and to top it off we had an unexpected thunderstorm, hail and rain just as poor Carolyn set off to get her hair done, so it certainly made for an interesting day! Thankfully by the time we had to leave for the Church, the sun was out again and the rain had completely evaporated!
We all got ready at her mum’s lovely Spanish villa which is also in the same village, her two nieces looked incredibly cute in their matching dresses, her nephew did a wonderful reading at the Church and Alex (her big sister iced and decorated the fruit cake that Carolyn had made a couple of weeks earlier). Carolyn looked absolutely stunning in her Pronovias dress and the very talented Juan sang to his Bride at the reception which was held in the local restaurant / bar in the village centre where we all consumed lots of lovely Spanish food and drank lots of free flowing wine. At the end of the night (about 3am!!), Matt and I walked back hand in hand down the windy roads back to our lovely villa, the Casa Rincon where we spent a few days before and after the wedding.
Here are some of my favourite photos of the day…..
Not long after this point, I put down my camera and became a guest 🙂 and we all had an absolutely amazing evening celebrating a very special day.
Happy 1st Anniversary Carolyn & Juan, here’s to many more xxx
